Myoclonus

We’ve all experienced it.  We’re about to fall asleep and a leg or arm jerks us awake.  Maybe we’re trying to stay awake and just as we’re nodding off, our head jerks up.  To all who have lost precious sleep to this unfortunate event, today’s word is for you.

myoclonus n. a sudden, involuntary spasm or twitching of the muscles, especially as one is about to fall asleep.
