bolita

1-100I’m thinking of a number between 1 and 100…  From the “There’s a Word for That?” file comes today’s word:

bolita n. a numbers game in which the player or players try to guess a two-digit number.  The word comes from Spanish Cuban and refers to a type of lottery played in Cuba and southern Florida in the late 19th and early 20th century in which 100 numbered balls were placed in a sack, which was shaken and then one ball was selected after bets were taken.
